It has recently been pointed out that alot of us (including me) have bailed on the site. I would like to be one of the first to say "Yes I did". I am back after a month or so of not looking in to see what was going on. I was waiting for a change that probably is never going to happen.

Now looking forward we have the draft and free agency, provided the collective bargaining stays in tact. We need to seriously fix the right tackle and left guard position on offense so we can get the run going and pass rush slowed down. Whoever the QB will be next year needs more time than they have been given. A little pressure is all it took to stop us on offense. The generic play calling was alot to do with it as well. Still many changes changes and fixes are needed on offense. We have to put the points on the board period.

I only have a couple of complaints on Defense. I feel sometimes they were too soft on coverage with the DB and gave up too much on the yards after catch, and never think that Favre is not going to toss one up in the end zone with 4 seconds left to win the game that we should have won.PR_139511.jpg

The Niners should sell out in this draft.  They should be willing to trade future picks and veterans to get what we need, which is 2 or 3 offensive lineman, a cornerback, a safety, and a big play running back/receiver who can also return kicks.  I have watched a bunch of college football and done some research over my winter break.  With our first pick, either trade up to get Dez Bryant or Joe Haden.  I doubt they will be on the board at 13.  Or we can trade down with New England, who has the 22nd pick and three 2nd rounders.  Tampa Bay has two high 2nd rounders, too, so maybe the Niners can find a way to get one of those.

With the 13th and 16/17th (coin flip later) and the 47th picks, the Niners have a bunch of options.  Trading down and getting more picks in the top three rounds should be a top priority.  This draft is stacked with talent.  Guys they should try to get: Bryant, Haden, CJ Spiller, Javid Best, Brian Bulaga, Taylor Mays, Anthony Davis, Jordan Shipley, and Ryan Matthews.  There are others but these guys are good and should be available.

I love the Niners and I want to see them win a couple Super Bowls in the next 5 or 6 years.  They have a solid nucleus with Crabtree, Willis, Lee, Staley, Franklin, Spencer, Gore, and Smith (HOPEFULLY, SMITH!)  This is the year to fill in the gaps and start winning.  Another option would be trade the picks for proven veterans, like Brandon Marshall.  Also, Nate Clements' contract needs to be restructured, $10 million a year?  No freaking way!

      Hi All,

Just joined, i've been a niner fan since 1980 when i went on a family holiday to Napa Valley. I'll be flying to London to see the Broncos game in October...it will be by first NFL game and i'm really excited. I'm hoping for a good draft this year....i think we need it to make a push for the play-offs....it's a long time since we made the play-offs and a Superbowl. My favourite player is Veron Davis, i got his replica jersey last year from the NFL shop and i'm delighted he had a breakout season and the Probowl.

I hope i'm not the only niner fan living in Ireland.

      C'MON THE NINERS!!!!

  • Player End of year Awards Player End of year Awards

    • From: Niner4ever
    • Description:

If the fans of the 49ers could present awards to the players for their efforts on the field, these would be some of the awards that would be given:

MVP: Patrick Willis is the mainstay of this ball club. He has his 3rd All-Pro nomination, and continues to be a force on defense. Patrick Willis continues his domination at the position

Offensive Player of the year:  Frank Gore wins the award due to the fact that he is still the engine of this almost ready offense. Frank had 1,120 yards on the ground and another 406 yards from scrimmage through the air. No matter what day it is and who the 49ers are playing Frank is the go to player. Without Frank Gore this team struggles.

Break out Player of the year: Vernon Davis had 78 catches and 13 touchdowns. He finally became the weapon the 49ers thought he could become. Teams can no longer clamp down on Frank Gore, and with the addition of Michael Crabtree teams have to respect the offense. Vernon Davis was the benefactor of the added talent. (By the way I said in my preseason break down that he would have a great year.)

Comeback Player of the year: Alex Smith although not dominating did benefit from Shaun Hills inability to move the ball club for 6 quarters. Alex was still up and down with consistency, but did enough to vie for his position next year. Alex’s numbers are still not NFL worthy numbers but they are the best numbers he has had in his career.

Unsung Hero: Justin Smith is to the defensive line what Patrick Willis and Frank Gore are to their positions. In a simple word: Important! Justin Smith is a work horse on the line. He not only makes offensive coordinator account for him, but he is a constant force on the line. He is also one of the most inspirational players on this team. The 49ers could use 53 of these types of motor players.

Best 1st year starter: Deshon Goldson is the guy who has added the punch to this defense. He has made impact plays throughout the year. In his first year as a starter he is what was missing from this defense in past years. He is a leader, a hitter, and a soon to be a well known name in the league.

Most improved player: Chilo Rachal over came early season errors and banters by coach Singletary to become one of the most improved players on the offensive line. He lowered his sack allowed totals and became a force in opening holes for the running game.

Rookie of the year: Even with his holdout it is clear to see why the 49ers coveted Michael Crabtree. He has dynamic hands, has the will to win, and wants to be an impact player. Michael’s impact on this team should be seen for years to come.

    • Description:

      Hi fellow Niner fans,

Well another season past and what i predicted before the season was correct , we are nothing but a .500 team at the moment , qb performances were a washout , need to  do something urgently there and the passing game needs to be opened out more. Vernon Davis (what a season and Frank Gore too but that was all it was) not much variation out of there. I like the look of Crabtree and Morgan as a tandem but they need to get the ball to them a hell of a lot more and then open the offense out. QB in free agency is a complete must or a QB like Colt McCoy of Texas to get in there in the Draft. If this does not happen it will be the same next year with not much improvement and i would like to see a change of the Coaching Staff if this is the case.

Well i am glad the Niners are coming over here to the UK , can't wait to get down to London to see them and i hope a lot of you from California and the States come over for a vacation i am sure you will enjoy.

      Bye for now

  • My take on the 9ers 2010 draft My take on the 9ers 2010 draft

    • From: sfout
    • Description:

It's pretty interesting to see that most mock drafts have us picking up C.J. Spiller, Trent Williams, Everson Griffin, or Jerry Hughes in the first round and an assortment of CBs and Safetys during the second round.

Drafting Spiller would be a strange idea for me. Seeing how Gore is only in his 5th year and Coffee is a rookie. However doing so would really bring out that "smash mouth run first" kind of offense that Singletary has been wanting. With 3 RBs and a fairly dependable Moran Norris our backfield would be very dominate.

Secondly our up and down offensive line is in need of a real anchor, a young player that we can depend on. Any one of the OTs in the draft would do nothing but improve our OL and in turn give Alex better protection and open up lanes for the running game.

Joe Haden or Taylor Mays would become instant playmakers for our defense and give us an edge against alot of deep threats around the league and the LB/DE positions would get a boost from either Hughes or Griffin but my personal favorite would have to be Jerry Hughes. If he somehow falls far enough(as some drafts have him going after 13 but before 16/17 - I've also seen him in the second round on a few pages) he would be a real diamond in the rough. I'm from Utah and have been watching this guy in MWC the last few years; this guy is a playmaker and nothing else. I've seen him singlehandly win or keep TCU in several tight games when their offense wasn't getting it done.

I have to say I've heard people saying we need another QB, whether it would be a hungry veteran to mentor Smith or a young gun to give him some competition, that's the real question. Urban Meyer made a real machine when he got his hands on Alex and it's almost backfired on him in the pros. He lacks improvisional skills and has that tendency to roll right when pressured. But yet he is a great scrambler and has a great arm and vision. With these pros and cons and all the baggage Alex has had to endure I would go with a hungry vet that can still teach him some things but at the same time give him some competition. Bottom line keep smith as the starter, let go of Shaun Hill and bring in a vet and let Nate Davis continue mature as the "QB of the future".

I'm suffering from major 49er withdrawals.  It is tough watching the playoffs with no Niners in them (again).  I don't know what I will do this Sunday with no game to prepare for.  It is going to be a LONG off-season.  I'm not even going to talk about the demise of the team this year-ready to move on.  I am still a huge fan but this organization from the office down to this website is making it very difficult.  Please, please 49ers organization get your mess together.  It is time for us to be an elite professional football organization (again).  I would like to be gracious winners rather than outstanding losers.  Easier said than done I guess.

  • We are on the way!!!!! We are on the way!!!!!

    • From: Niner4ever
    • Description:

Great win by the 49ers this last weekend! 500 ball is not where I envisioned this team with this talent, but as we all saw, this team is poised to do big things next year. Greg Manusky is an awesome Defensive coordinator, and the Defense is the pride of this organization at this point.

The offense is improved with the additions of Crabtree, and the emergence of Vernon Davis. Frank Gore is and remains the heart and soul of the offense. Quarterback is still an issue. Alex I must admit played tons better, but is he the quarterback of the future? I am not the one to make that decision, and luckily for Alex I am not. I feel he is too prone to mistakes, does not get the ball out fast enough and does not have the ability to win against bad teams.

Vernon Davis must continue to mature as a player, and Josh Morgan must do more of the things he displayed in his first year, and less of the sophomoric things he displayed this year. Josh is a true talent, but his on field mistakes cost this team this year. Josh must do less of the kid stuff and more of the professional things. No dropping sure touch down passes. No excessive celebration penalties. Last but not least be a play maker all the time. With that said. I will be buying my Josh Morgan Jersey this year.

Special Teams: You guys have been the best coverage team I have seen in San francisco in a long time. Both Kickoff and punt return teams we impressive this year. Tarrell Brown, Scott Mckillop, Arnaz Battle, and all the rest contributed to allowing only one kickoff return for a touchdown, and that was too Percy Harvin. If the team makes that tackle we win that game no doubt!

I loved this team’s intensity this year. I didn't always love the offensive play calling, but the pursuit to the ball on defense and the maturity gained by the offense give us hopes for next year.

Go out and crush the Lambs and end the season on a 500 note is a must. There were at least four games the 49ers could have won that they lost. Next year will be the year to finish teams off on both sides of the ball.

I love this team and all they did this year! we didn't return to Champions, but You guys played with the heart of ones!

      Never surrender! Return to Champions!!!!!!!!

Has anyone else had a bad experience with the paramedics at Lower section 7??  I'm talking about the guy that stands in front of the door during the games.  He offers no help and is rude when you ask him for help.  When you are in need of assistance he actually LAUGHS at you.  Why don't the paramedics carry a name tag or I.D. badge??? Theire is no way to file a complaint against them!  He actually said he doesn't have a supervisor and doesn't report to anyone.  I went to the front office and they didn't have any way to file a complaint against him either.  Are they allowed to do what they want?  I bet if he commited a serious error or malpractice the 49ers would do something because they'd also be liable.  They better watch him, he is a lawsuit waiting to happen!!!

  • 49ers' Smith 'nothing great, b 49ers' Smith 'nothing great, but consistent'

    • From: 9erlloyd
    • Description:

The end zone was within striking distance as San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith scrambled to his right Sunday.

Smith probably should have dove into the end zone instead of pulling up at the last moment and throwing a disputed 2-yard touchdown pass to tight end Vernon Davis.
"Alex came to the sideline and I was scratching my head and he knew what I was going to say," 49ers coach Mike Singletary said.

"Coach, be nice, be nice," Smith told Singletary upon reaching the sideline.

The Detroit Lions thought Smith had crossed the line of scrimmage before throwing the pass to Davis. Replays were inconclusive. The touchdown stood during the 49ers' 20-6 victory at Candlestick Park, but the play pointed to a broader dilemma.

What should the 49ers make of Smith?

The once- and possibly future franchise quarterback has played well enough late this season to qualify as the favorite to start entering 2010. He has not shown enough to command a long-term contract, however, and that means the 49ers still cannot be sure they have the right man under center. The 49ers scored only 20 points Sunday despite collecting six turnovers and starting eight drives outside their own 40-yard-line.

"We did some good things," Smith said. "We missed some clear opportunities there, especially in the first half. ... We didn't get it done there. I think that's not only me, but the offense as well. We need to improve that."

Smith is 25 years old and improving. He has needed only nine starts and 10 total games to reach 17 touchdown passes, one more than the career high he set as a 16-game starter in 2006. He has a 4-3 record in his last seven starts, throwing more interceptions than touchdowns in only one of those games (at Philadelphia). Smith completed 20 of 31 passes for 230 yards, one touchdown and a 97.5 rating against the Lions.

Smith's 17 touchdown passes are more than any 49ers quarterback has thrown in a season since Jeff Garcia had 18 in 2003.

"He's come a long way," said former 49ers and Seahawks linebacker Julian Peterson, now with the Lions. "I thought he made good strides that one year (2006) when they beat us twice and I was in Seattle. Then they stuck him back out there when he was injured and I thought that was kind of wrong. But now he is healthy and a lot better."

The 49ers have promising young skill players around Smith. Davis, with 12 touchdown receptions, is enjoying a Pro Bowl-caliber season at tight end. Rookie receiver Michael Crabtree has 45 catches in 10 games. Josh Morgan, another young receiver, has a career-high 50 catches.

Smith showed improved touch on his shorter passes Sunday, particularly when facing pressure. He's been a little quick to backpedal out of plays in some games, making it much tougher to complete passes against the rush. Peterson was about to blast Smith on fourth-and-1 play Sunday when the quarterback floated a touch pass to an uncovered Frank Gore. The play produced a 48-yard gain. Earlier, Crabtree had to wait on a deep ball, but the play still produced a 50-yard gain.

"I thought he was pretty consistent -- nothing great, but consistent," Singletary said.

The 49ers remain a team in transition. They've had two quarterbacks, two left tackles and three wide receivers start at least six games. They've gone from being a power running team to a shotgun passing team to a team trying to make the disparate approaches work together. They are working with their seventh offensive coordinator in seven seasons and their fifth in five seasons since Smith was a rookie.

This hardly seems like the time to break in another quarterback.

"I think Alex has done a real good job," left tackle Joe Staley said. "He understands where to go with the ball every time and he creates on the run, too. We have a lot of explosive young guys and once everybody matures and knows exactly what they are doing on every play, we're going to be really, really explosive."

Becoming more comfortable within a traditional NFL offense is Smith's primary challenge as a former college spread quarterback.

The 49ers had three plays covering 20 yards or longer against Detroit. They had two running backs on the field for all of them. That is no coincidence.

For all the strides Smith has made since tossing one touchdown pass with 11 interceptions as a rookie, he hasn't shown he can carry an offense. Big plays tend to open up for the 49ers when opponents fear what Gore offers on the ground.

That was certainly the case when Smith found Crabtree wide open for that 50-yard gain. The 49ers were lined up in an offset-I formation with bruising fullback Moran Norris leading for Gore. The 49ers' other plays covering at least 20 yards came with two backs and two tight ends. Both were in short-yardage situations.

The Lions had to respect Gore before they could worry about Smith.

"Best back in the league," 49ers running back Michael Robinson said. "Some guys got more yards, but look at his feet. Look at the guys he makes miss. He is awesome."

Gore moved past 1,000 yards for the season Sunday, becoming the first 49ers player to reach that milestone in four consecutive seasons.

"It's kind of good to see us evolve into more of a balanced offense," Robinson said.

Smith and the 49ers have more to lose than gain heading into their regular-season finale at St. Louis. It's too late for Smith to prove he's definitely the man -- or not the man -- this season.

As referee Walt Anderson discovered in reviewing the scoring pass that left Singletary scratching his head, sometimes the evidence isn't conclusive.

    • From: bonniee916
    • Description:

Just read on SFgate.com that Jed Yorks back up plan to the new stadium location is sharing a stadium with the Oakland Raiders.  Is he crazy?  That is the worse idea I've heard so far.  Their stadium is in a crime ridden location with massive traffic problems.  Oakland has one of the highest crime rates in the US.  We already have an intense rivalry with them and there has been drive-by shootings at tailgaters in Oakland.  49er fans would be like target practice.  If I wanted to see a game in Oakland I'd become a damn Raider fan and that isn't likely to happen!  I'd have to sell my 6 (yes SIX) seats and just watch from home.  At least I'd be safe and save some money.  Jed, you need to come up with a better idea.  Go to Oakland before a Raider game and drive around.  Check out the traffic and crime and then rethink your PLAN or you may have a billboard asking for your resignation too.

I'm posting this the week of the 49ers vs Lions game so it'll probably come up when the season is done. Do we stay consistent and keep Jimmy Raye or do we find someone else? If we are not going to have a better QB than I say lets try and keep an OC for more than 1 year. If there is a new QB then whats the difference? I am in no way a fan of Raye, but I hate this revolving door we have with our OC's. What about you?
