Smith or another QB Comments

  • They should have rid themselves of Alex Smith when they had the chance. He does what bighoochypapa said.  He gives the ball up too many time for the turnover that cost us the game.  It's not the different OC issue, or the injury, or Nolan or any other excuse that people have used for him.  He's not an NFL caliber QB.  Never has been, never will be.

  • alex smith is definately the guy,he played 9 or 10 games and threw 18 TDs,hes on the right path,if the niners add a couple good young lineman in the draft, smith could possibly have a great pro bowl potential year, and were getting joe staley back, niners r in the playoffs no doubt, and one other thing alex smith has never ever had the same OC for 2 straight years, thts hard 4 a QB 2 keep goin in every year starting over, learning a whole new style offense, the guys not a robot his brain can only hold so much info,so having the same OC for the first time in his career is a huge plus, the NFC better watch out the niners r just a couple players away from makin a serious run,Patrick Willis 4 president,go niners!!!!!!!!

  • Thats True bleedred_sweatgold. But i had season tickets last year and i saw plenty of uncalled for mistakes.  Alex smith just doesn't make good decisions, He throws the ball away when he could easily run it for 4-5 yards, he throws into traffic with 2 or 3 defenders when he has a man wide open, he is a quick quarter back but he never pulls it down a runs with it for a few yards to help out the run game, don't get me wrong the o-line does need some work but they cant do it all, especially when he holds onto the ball as long as he does when they do hold their line spots.  To me at leas when i comes down to it, he just cant make the right decisions when throwing the ball which leads o alot of his mistakes.

  • It's not the  QB it's the "O" lines responsibility to protect him. That's why he keeps getting sacked. When the "O" line doesn't open up holes for the run game, it give the other teams defense confidence to blanket the receivers. Thus, Smith has to hold on to the ball longer to find the open man. Which in turn means he's susceptible to sacks (cause he's in the pocket longer).

  • Im from bakersfield and have seen our new QB David Carr play close up! He was good in high school and college and hopefully he comes back to that after his first year with the Texans and not gettin much playing time with the Giants..Im still a SMITH fan and am praying he gets to show his full potential this season and get out of the riff he was in

  • AND ON BEHALF OF DAVID CARR!! HE IS A GREAT QB, YOU GUYS DONT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT. LOOK AT HIS CAREER NUMBERS COMPARED TO ALEX SMITH. AND DAVID CARR CAME INTO THE LEAGUE WHEN THE HOUSTON TEXANS BECAME THE EXPANSION TEAM. SO HE PLAYED WITH ABSOLUTLY NOONE, ALEX SMITH IS SURROUNDED BY TALENT AND HE STILL CANNOT GET THE JOB DONE. DAVID CARR HAS BEEN SITTING BEHIND THE GREAT ELI MANNING FOR THE LAST 3 YEARS LEARNING AND STUDYING. HE EVEN TALKS ABOUT IT IN HIS BLOGS ALL THAT HE HAS LEARNED SITTING BEHIND A QB LIKE ELI, ITS ALMOST LIKE HOW AARON RODGERS SAT BEHIND FARVE FOR 3 YEARS AND LEARNED THE GAME, BEING FORCED TO START EVERYGAME YOUR ROOKIE YEAR ECESPICALLY WITH AN EXPANSION TEAM IS RUFF, DAVID CARR IS A FORMER #1 FIRST ROUND PICK FOR A REASON.  DAVID CARRS NUMBERS ARE ASTOUNDING IF YOU TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION THAT HE PLAYED WITH A TEAM OF ROOKIES AND BACKUPS AND THEIR DIVISION WASNT NECESSARLLY THE EASIEST. THINK ABOUT IT, OR BETTER YET, EDUCATE YOURSELVES, LOOK AT WHAT ALEX HAS DONE IN HIS 6 YEARS, YOU COULD AT LEAST GIVE DAVID CARR A CHANCE, I THOUGHT THAT WAS A GREAT MOVE.

  • HONESTLLY WE JUST NEED TO BUCK UP AND GET D. MCNABB!!!!! or let DAVID CARR.  Because i have been watching Alex Smith play his whole career and he has never been a starting caliber QB. He makes a GREAT Backup dont get me wrong but if WE ever want to Get that 6th ring we need someone Behind the center who can Lead The team EVERYWEEK. He is too hot and cold.

  • I think Vick would fit perfect....He will run around like Young use to do (not saying he is anywhere near youngs level) I say bring on vick. Or if we can just protect smith more i think he will have a great year, working with jimmy for a 2nd straight season!

  • David Carr?  Are you effing kidding me?  What are y'all smokin'?  With all the QB talent in the draft this year we sign David Carr?

Oh yeah that's right.  This is the same management that benched Shaun Hill and put Alex Smith in as the starter, drafted Crabtree instead of Oher and let Kory Sheets get away when our kicking game sucked.  Maybe we can sign a veteran free agent to anchor that right side of the line.  SNAFU for the Niners.

Hey Shaun, BOHICA!!!!!  You're about to get your reward for being a loyal team player.  You're still a better QB than Alex Smith or David Carr.  We now have two #1 pick QBs and if you put them together you still don't have a decent QB.

  • David Carr - signed a 2 year deal today - I see Smith having a good season, only, as you guys say below, that O LINE is fixed!!!

  •   Oops went to the wrong blog! There you go Ratman.

Ratman you have just been promoted to Head Coach. What is the difference between the 49ers of yester year and today? In a sentence? A strong Front on both sides of the ball, and a great qb. The 49ers have shored up the front 7 on the defensive side of the ball, and now have to improve on the offensive line.

OT and RG are essential in this draft. Chilo Rachel is still pan caking people, but he is like any other player on this team, if you don't perform, you don't play. The Niners are where they were in 1980. Except this time the defense is in place and the offense is the need.

Joe Montana could put up 35 points and other teams would put up 36. Then Ronnie Lott, Hacksaw Reynolds, Carlton Williamson, Eric Wright and Fred Dean came along.

They as a group stopped other teams from putting up 21 points, and then Joe Montana would put up 28, allowing the 49ers to win.

In other words defense wins championships!

Deshon Goldson is / has become the young Ronnie Lott type for his position. Now he has to learn how to quarter back from the defensive side of the ball. Honestly fear strikes when witnessing his hits on ball carriers. Deshon is a definite keeper.

The opposite mentality is in place at this point with this 49er team. The defense now needs the offense to get in step. The pieces are falling in place for the offense, but the offensive line and the quarterback position are a priority to take the next step forward.

Go after the best reasons in this draft to keep Alex Smith (That would be a new right tackle). If Alex fails with the added protection then your answer as an organization is made for you.

Names the fans should hope to hear on draft day in April are Trent Williams, C.J. Spiller, Eric Berry, or Joe Haden (not real high on), Bryan Bulaga, Anthony Davis, and possibly Rolando McClain. All of those players are possible at 13. Taylor Mays at 17 is also possible.

Jahvid Best if available in the 2nd round is a must. Move up at all cost to get this kid. PR and KR are answered with this kid, plus a nice little change of direction on third downs with him in the back field.

The third round steals would include Myron Rolle, Jacoby Ford or Freddie Barnes. Four Impact players in the first three rounds are mandatory.

This is the key to returning to Champions!!!!!

  • Well it all starts up front right? Give the Qb the protection he needs and he might be able to have the time to throw the ball.

Look at Aarron Rogers, if he had more time to throw the ball than he did the packers passing game would have been almost unstoppable. Peyton Manning gets the time to throw because of the line and it makes him look better than he actually is. Hell even when Eli got the time to throw he looked better than he is. What was that 2007? Tom Brady had the time too. Need I go on?

Let's get whoever is the Qb the time to throw and we will be much better off. Whether it's Smith, Hill, Dehlomme, Davis, or whoever!

Just saying get the line fixed!

  • I say let him know he is the starter at the start of the season..Then if he sucks during the season then give Nate a chance....He will show u more than what u think...

  • I say give Smith one more year. He has improved tremendously, no denying that! It wouldn't hurt to draft a QB just to be oin the safe side though.

    Darccide4Life, 6 months ago | Flag
  • WOW !!!!! I have to agree with Kiwi. He has had a ruff time. But I swear Alex this is your last chance with me. This year or threw with you.

  • I say give him another shot with the same coaches - poor bugger has been shafted so much, his mind must be all mixed up.

if I was chucked in a job reading 5 different manuals, I'll be screwed as well!

  • Get rid of Smith.  The only thing he is consistent with is turning the ball over and giving up the winning points.

Draft Dan LeFevour and get this QB thing over with.
