Smith's passing ability is very good, but he can't handle close game situations
billybedamned, 3 months ago | FlagThey should have rid themselves
of Alex Smith when they had the chance. He does what bighoochyp apa said. He gives the ball up too many time for the turnover that cost us the game. It's not the different OC issue, or the injury, or Nolan or any other excuse that people have used for him. He's not an NFL caliber QB. Never has been, never will be.
mase91, 4 months ago | Flagalex smith is definately
the guy,he played 9 or 10 games and threw 18 TDs,hes on the right path,if the niners add a couple good young lineman in the draft, smit h could possibly have a great pro bowl potential year, and were getting joe staley back, niner s r in the playoffs no doubt, and one other thing alex smith has never ever had the same OC for 2 straight years, thts hard 4 a QB 2 keep goin in every year starting over, learn ing a whole new style offense, the guys not a robot his brain can only hold so much info,so having the same OC for the first time in his career is a huge plus, the NFC better watch out the niners r just a couple players away from makin a serious run,Patric k Willis 4 president, go niners!!!! !!!!

weatgold. But i had season tickets last year and i saw plenty of uncalled for mistakes. Alex smith just doesn't make good decisions, He throws the ball away when he could easily run it for 4-5 yards, he throws into traffic with 2 or 3 defenders when he has a man wide open, he is a quick quarter back but he never pulls it down a runs with it for a few yards to help out the run game, don't get me wrong the o-line does need some work but they cant do it all, especially when he holds onto the ball as long as he does when they do hold their line spots. To me at leas when i comes down to it, he just cant make the right decisions when throwing the ball which leads o alot of his mistakes.
BleedRed_SweatGold, 4 months ago | FlagIt's not the QB it's the "O" lines responsibi
lity to protect him. That's why he keeps getting sacked. When the "O" line doesn't open up holes for the run game, it give the other teams defense confidence to blanket the receivers. Thus, Smith has to hold on to the ball longer to find the open man. Which in turn means he's susceptibl e to sacks (cause he's in the pocket longer).
